Courses for Kids and Families
Most classes are geared for elementary and middle school aged children.
We will do our best to be clear on age requirements and policies with each class. If you have any questions please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Family Farm Potluck On Pause Due to Covid-19
The second Sunday of every month we host a free community potluck social from 5-8 pm. Children and adults can explore and play. You are welcome to bring an instrument, outdoor game, board game, food dish to share if you'd like. Children must be accompanied by an adult. RVSP is not required. You are welcome to attend part or all of the social. This is a great way to get to know The FOLC Farm and meet folks.
Homeschool Homesteading Day
Twice a month on a weekday afternoon we host a homeschool day where students learn outdoor survival and homesteading with a professional instructor while socializing in a small group setting. In the four-hour class we will have two skills workshops on various topics that can count as science, math and art courses (examples: shelter building, first aid, homemade food and home products, creating art with natural/recycled materials). All activities will include hands on experiential learning. Most workshops will take place on the screened teaching porch or outside.
Due to Covid-19 class size is limited, we will learn outdoors and spread out, there will be many opportunities for handwashing, and if we need to come indoors or be in close proximity for an activity, masks must be worn.
This program is designed for students 8 years and older. You are welcome to drop off your child and take a break if desired! We are close to downtown Gainesville, UF, and many nature walking and bicycling trails. Children 5-7, or those who need extra support, are welcome with parent/guardian supervision.
Cost for the program is a sliding scale of $25-$45 for one child and discounted $15-$35 for each additional sibling. Families with more income and financial security are asked to pay at the higher end (market value) so other families can pay at the discounted rate. The different price options are listed when you book online. Simply choose which one you feel is appropriate for your family.

Wilderness Camps: summer, spring break, school breaks
for elementary and middle school aged children
At designated times posted on the course calendar during school breaks and in the summer we have limited spots available for single-day and week-long camps. These programs teach important skills with professional adult leadership, maintain a low teacher to student ratio and have limited enrollment for small class size (aka not a daycare service!). Awesome opportunity for kids who are interested in outdoor and adventure skills.
A Monday- Friday week long summer camp program runs from 9 am- 4 pm daily (early drop off starting at 7:30 am and extended pick up until 5:30 pm). We will have indoor and outdoor activities (4 activity stations per day) as well as lunch break and free play time. Activities include a mix of wilderness, survival, outdoor, craft and homesteading skills such as shelter building, how to find water sources, making dehydrated fruit leather or jams, creating art from recycled materials, learning about local plants and animals. Specific summer camp activity schedules will be posted as the time nears.
Typical schedule in camps or school break days:
Free play in early drop off: 7:30-9 am
Skill session 1: 9 am- 10:30 am
Skill session 2: 10:30 am- 12 pm
Lunch and free time: 12- 1 pm
Skill session 3: 1- 2:30 pm
Skill session 4: 2:30- 4 pm
Free play in extended care: 4- 5:30 pm
